Many people who know that I sell pepper spray and other self defense products now call me "The Mace Lady". I think I like it. I could be known as something worse.

I think once you're given a title, you have a responsibility to live up to that. So I will continue to sell pepper spray (Mace is now a brand of pepper spray) and educate people, especially women, on the different types and why they should carry some.

Why Carry A Small Pepper Spray?

Can you imagine that there still are people who have never heard of pepper spray? Yes, there's also those who don't believe that they would ever need it.

Well, I have news for you, especially you ladies! Anyone, anywhere, anytime can be a victim, whether it’s a purse snatching or an attempt to rape you. It could be one attacker or a group. Wouldn’t you rather be prepared than sorry later? If you value your life, or the contents of your purse, which may include your wallet, money, cell phone, keys, personal identification, wouldn’t you want to stack the odds in your favor when it comes to your safety?

One of the easiest ways to defend yourself is with a small pepper spray. Many come with a detachable keychain so you can carry it with you all the time. Others can just be carried in your purse, attached to your car visor, or you can keep several in different places in your home. A small pepper spray can be disguised as a tube of lipstick, a pen, a pager, or even a ring. If you’re out on a date with a guy who turns out to be a creep, just take out your lipstick pepper spray and give him a blast.

How will pepper spray protect you? Once it’s sprayed into an attacker’s face, he will immediately start choking and gasp for air. His eyes will shut from the hot pepper solution contained in the spray. He will be in much pain. The effects will last up to 45 minutes, giving you a chance to get away and call for help.  No permanent damage is done to your attacker, so you don’t have to worry about harming him.

Sometimes, just the threat of being pepper sprayed may be enough for a potential attacker to leave you alone. He’ll probably just move on to an easier target, but you’ll be safe.
